Choose around your household

Different systems.
The right fit matters.

Existing connections, water pressure, space and the way your household uses hot water all shape the recommendation. We explain the work and pricing before you approve it.

Electric cylinders

Repair or replace an existing electric hot-water cylinder, or plan a new installation. We assess cylinder condition, household demand and pressure requirements, along with valves, pipework and electrical supply. A loss of hot water may be a component or supply fault rather than a reason to replace the whole cylinder.

Gas hot water

Gas continuous-flow systems heat water as it is used; gas storage systems keep a reserve ready. We can discuss repairs, servicing or replacement of either type. Gas supply, demand, appliance location, ventilation and flue requirements need assessment before choosing a system or changing from electric. We confirm the appropriate authorised trade scope before work starts.

Heat pump hot water

A heat pump transfers heat from surrounding air into stored water. It is a water-heating system, not the same as a room heat pump. Installation needs suitable space, airflow, drainage and electrical supply, with noise, location and recovery time considered. We assess household demand and site suitability before recommending capacity or replacement options; running costs depend on the system and how it is used.

  1. 01 /

    Repairs

Tell us about leaks, inconsistent temperatures, unusual noises, error messages or a complete loss of hot water. We assess the cause and explain the repair options.

  2. 02 /

    Maintenance

Arrange servicing around your system’s manufacturer guidance and condition. We can discuss checks of the appliance, valves and associated components without asking you to dismantle anything.

  3. 03 /

    Replacement

Compare repairing the existing system with a replacement or a change of type. The quote sets out capacity, installation requirements and any related trade work or approvals.

For managed properties, tell us the owner’s approval limit and tenant access arrangements. We agree scope, pricing and terms before work starts. Extra work needs your agreement.

If the hot water stops

Start with safety.
Then call us.

Keep people away from leaking hot water and wet electrical equipment. Do not remove appliance covers, touch wiring, relight a faulty gas appliance or repeatedly reset a tripping circuit. If it is safe, note whether every tap is affected and any displayed error code.

Call us with the address, system type and what you can safely observe. We provide 24/7 emergency plumbing and electrical call-outs; attendance, the trade needed and charges are confirmed by phone. Heating or hot-water replacement is not a guaranteed same-day service.

Smell gas? Leave the immediate area. Do not use switches, electronic devices or your mobile phone in the affected area. From a safe place, call your gas emergency provider; for Powerco, call 0800 111 848. In immediate danger, move to safety and call 111.

Good to know

Hot-water
questions.

Should I repair or replace my cylinder?

That depends on the fault, tank condition, age, parts availability and your household’s needs. A component fault may be repairable; a leaking or deteriorating tank may need replacement. We assess the system before recommending a course of action.

Can I change from electric to gas or heat pump hot water?

We can assess that with you. A conversion may need supply changes, new pipework, a different location and electrical or gas work. Space, ventilation, drainage, noise and approvals matter. We explain those requirements in the quote rather than assuming every option fits every home.

What size system does my household need?

Tell us how many people live there, the number of bathrooms and when showers or other hot-water uses overlap. Storage capacity, recovery rate and simultaneous flow demand all matter; we assess these against the available supply and space.

What if I smell gas near the water heater?

Leave the immediate area and keep others away. Do not operate switches, electronic devices or your mobile in the affected area, and do not attempt a repair. From safety, contact your gas emergency provider; Powerco’s gas emergency number is 0800 111 848. Call 111 from safety if there is immediate danger. A routine service enquiry is not a substitute for reporting a suspected gas leak.

Can you restore hot water tonight?

Call us first. We provide 24/7 emergency plumbing and electrical services, but attendance and the required trade need confirmation. The fault, safe access and parts availability determine what can be done. We cannot promise an immediate repair or replacement.

Do you look after rental properties in Lower Hutt?

Yes. Give us the property address, tenant contact arrangements, fault details and spending authority. We keep the property manager informed and confirm access and approvals before the visit. Your quote identifies the business you are contracting with.

Is a heat pump water heater also a room heater?

No. Heat pump hot water heats stored water for taps and showers. Single-room or ducted heat pumps heat the living space. For room heating, see our heating services.
